The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers degrees for both undergraduates and graduates. At the undergraduate level the department awards a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree that is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. For graduate degrees, the department offers both a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering degrees.
Both the undergraduate and graduate curricula are based on core courses in which fundamental principles governing energy conversion, fluid and solid mechanics, dynamics, and engineering design are explored. Follow-on courses are devoted to the creative application of these fundamental principals to solve modern technological problems. This includes courses devoted to robotics and controls, modern manufacturing processes, advanced materials, instrumentation, pollutant control during combustion processes, and environmentally-friendly "green" engineering.
