International political economy examines the interconnections between national governments and economies around the world. Governmental institutions seek to influence world markets and at the same time world markets often determine the fate of those institutions. Globalization accelerates the pace with which capital and goods flow between developed and developing countries and fluctuations to these economies in one part of the world are truly global in their impact on other parts of the world. This area of inquiry involves trade, financial markets, taxation, energy production, and global health and environment.
