The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering offers programs of graduate study leading to both the Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, with the primary emphasis on the latter. A professional master's degree (MChE), involving only course work, is also offered.
At Rice, the PhD is primarily a research degree. Graduate education is aimed at developing each student's ability to conduct independent creative scientific research.
