TOEFL
Minimum TOEFL scores for admission to the SJMC are 600 for the paper/pencil version of the test or 79 for the internet-based test.
IELTS
You must also self-report your TOEFL (or IELTS) scores.
GRE
The SJMC does not have a minimum requirement for GRE scores, but admitted MA students typically have scores in the 500s or above on the old scale or in the mid 150s or above on the new scale. Admitted PhD students typically have scores in the 600s or in the 160s or above on the new scale.

Be sure to choose "Mass Communication MA" or "Mass Communication PhD" from the drop down menu. Do not choose "Communication Studies."

Recommendation letters
Three letters of recommendation from persons well-acquainted with your academic work are required. At least one of these letters should be from an undergraduate advisor, major professor, or department chair who appraises the applicant's capabilities for graduate work. For PhD applicants, one of the three letters should be from the major advisor at the graduate level. For instructions on uploading these letters, click on the Recommendations link in Apply Yourself. Your recommenders will upload the letters themselves.
Transcript
Unofficial transcripts or academic records from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attented should be uploaded directly to the online application (in the Educational Background section). International students should also upload an English translation if the transcript is not in English. Please do not mail paper copies of your transcripts; there is no need for official transcripts or academic records for initial review.
