TOEFL
The English proficiency requirement can be fulfilled through the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Applicants are strongly urged to make arrangements to take these examinations early in the fall. Scores more than 2 years old are not accepted. Student score reports are not considered official.
The Graduate School requires the following minimum scores:
600 on the TOEFL paper-and-pencil test
100 on the TOEFL internet-based test
7.5 on IELTS

The $105 application fee can be paid by credit card at the time of application or subsequently via check (payable to Columbia University). Please do not send international postal coupons.

Letters of recommendation
Transcript
To expedite review, copies of transcripts should be uploaded as part of the on-line application. These may be unofficial copies. The application will also contain instructions for the electronic submission of letters of recommendation. Official copies of transcripts must still be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Affairs, 630 West 168th St., P&S 3-435, New York, NY 10032. All supporting documentation should be received no later than December 31, 2017.
